Diggers and Dealers Wrap - Busy Bees and Buzz words
Diggers and Dealers really is my favourite time of the year.
Don't tell my kids that. They're still hung up on Christmas and
Birthdays. But ultimately Diggers is far superior. They'll work
that out when they're a little older.
This years meeting of the mining minds was a mixed bag of the
same cautious optimism and tired faces that featured in the few
years prior. But there were some definite emerging themes -
everyone is an expert, everyone has an opinion - no-one has a
definitive clue.............
Theme one: Busy is the watchword
Like a passphrase into a secret society, "busy" is the word most
used in response to any question asked.
It could be that the continued theme of doing more with less has
companies and their best and brightest genuinely busy. It could
also be that they don`t have a lot of information to share. Or,
that they need a nap.
Theme number two: Buzz words
Once you`re in the secret busy society it seems you`re given a
pocket book of buzz words and phrases to add to each conversation.
Some of the stand outs were, 'significant upside', `optimistic`,
`untapped potential`, `untested`, 'undervalued' and
`unprecedented`.
It could also be that Diggers and Dealers is a front for the
world`s largest drinking game. One buzz word for one beer. The jury
is out.
As another year of Diggers and Dealers drew to a close it was
clear to see a spring returning to the step of the Nickel market
and whispered accounts of consolidation and growth across the
board. Here`s to a year of positivity and prosperity for
Australia`s economic backone.
