Bogan's Rant - With Michael McShane - September 2016
A Long Time Between Drinks
What's been putting the sand in my jocks in recent months?
Incompetence.
How's that float your boat?! It is everywhere. Every corner you
turn, every job you do, every industry you work in. It doesn't
matter - they walk amongst us….. Yet the most incompetent
individuals who hide behind their own inefficiencies and mistakes
complain about the incompetence of others - the ultimate oxymoron!
They literally don't see themselves as incompetent and must
walk through life dazed and confused!
See where I'm heading here? How do you tell someone (who
believes they're awesome) that has diminutive ability, uselessness
of an amoeba or mosquito (think about it) and urgency of a sloth
that they have no clue? How do you get someone who blames everyone
else for their failures and has an excuse for everything to lift
their game? I've experienced my fair share in recent months. Is it
wrong having to be nice to people that you imagine yourself
throwing a brick at? Dilemma.
I've been thinking a lot about this lately. Does it come
down to I.Q. deficiency? There are some people who are a
drink short of a Happy Meal, and a characteristic about every one
of these people is that they don't know it. They're f'ing useless -
let's just say they're "fuseless". They have no idea how
incompetent or stupid they are! How? Yet their opinion of
themselves and their friends (often exhibiting similar traits) is
the exact opposite. They have the highest self-image, will tell
anyone willing to listen and throw anyone who challenges them under
the bus. Is this why they find themselves being promoted? Yet
incompetence seems to be so widely rewarded. It's a whole
discussion point in itself, but comes down to their innate ability
to deflect attention away from their incompetencies, their mistakes
onto others. Incompetents invariably make trouble for people other
than themselves. Right?
These fuseless incompetents then find themselves in management
positions FFS! Then they create a hierarchy of like minded
individuals to create a force field of protection! What happens
next? Every employee tends to rise to their level of
incompetence. Nek minnut!
An example is something we recently experienced. Being asked to
do something that was clearly not needed! Like when I broke my left
arm falling off the monkey bars in Grade 3 at Dernancourt Primary.
My left arm visibly needed an x-ray. The best analogy is that these
incompetent gits wanted us to x-ray our right arm and both legs as
well - just to be sure - then hiding behind a justification that
someone else told them it needed to be done! "Don't argue, just do
it", was their instruction!
You know, the people who sit behind a management chair without
the relevant qualifications or experience and
say, "I have no idea how to do your job, but I
have a book here that says you're doing it wrong and this is how it
should be done"?
Then you get the mothballs who show no initiative and display
classic avoidance by, well, doing nothing at all. I like to call it
"Strategic incompetence"! Seems to be the
intricate art of avoiding responsibilities by pretending you don't
know how to do them.
These fuseless pull throughs also have a hardwired ability to
claim the success of an idea - not their own. Have you experienced
this? All of your hard work and efforts will somehow come back to
their initiative, their suggestion or input, but try telling them
they're wrong!
This rant is about incompetence! If you think the things
I say out loud are bad? Apologies. But you should hear the things I
keep to myself!
What else has the Bogan been up to? Well, the industry has been
a little quiet for us all, so the Bogan's alter ego has opened some
franchised & licensed gourmet burger restaurants in Brisbane!
Chef inspired burgers! Look us up at Forest
Lake and Milton (opening late Oct)!
Shameless plug!
Bogan's Pet Hate: Arrogance & incompetence. Seem
to go hand in hand. Get your hand off it flossers!
